Disposition:
In an ideal situation that was free of all manipulation Uldren is a curious and good-natured man with great leadership skills, a sense of adventure, and who wants what is best for his people. He genuinely cares for his people and wishes to see them safe and to flourish. He understands the importance of a hero and wishes to be that for his people: he wishes to perform great acts for his people and to come back in good spirits and to be heralded as a pillar of his people. He's the type of man to tell stories to children and to act them out as he told them. Ultimately he's intelligent, cunning, clever, and loyal with a bit of a flippant side that had a liking for pranks. Even with all of this he tended to be cocky, but he had all of the skills and expertise necessary to back up. He grew darker after the excursion into the Black Garden, and it is implied that his lightheartedness was turned into something darker, meaner, and insatiable.
Nothing about Destiny is an ideal situation, however. Uldren had been manipulated by his sister Mara ever since he was human. He has an unyielding loyalty to her that overrides his own sense of self and desires. Everything he does is about her, and he has a dependency on her that is unhealthy. Mara herself said that Uldren was reborn and needed help so dependency is something that is a part of him and how he will always be. Uldren himself has said that he is aware that he wants Mara's approval and he accepts that, but he would like to earn her approval coupled with her surprise. He has always wanted to do something she did not anticipate. He seems to be aware of the power she has over him in the way that he speaks about boundary testing with her: he fears that he does not stand by his sister's side of his own free will but that the chain that leashes him to her is so long he's never found the end. While they were still human their mother told Mara to be careful with Uldren as he was susceptible to manipulation and Mara particularly had a power over people.
In addition to this Uldren has - as far as we are aware - always had a hatred for the Guardians. Originally it was because he felt that the Guardians completely disregarded their place on the cosmic scale, and his dislike only grew as the Awoken helped the Guardians and their people with not so much as even a thank you. Awoken lives lost for a people who never cared. A lot of his good traits were perverted by this: lighthearted pranks turned into petty antagonization, cockiness turned into a condescending arrogance, and similar. In game this is why he appears to be such a dick: the game is taken in the pov of the Guardian and so we are treated as such. Uldren treats the Eliksni (Fallen) and Cabal with more respect than he does the Guardians - having a conversation (even if at knifepoint) or trying to patch them up after being shot at by Guardians.
Under the influence of Riven we see Uldren's personality truly grow perverted as he turns on his own people and allows his Scorn to ravage the Reef and kill his people as he worked towards what he thought was freeing Mara. He grew obsessive about Mara and his duty to free her from the beyond to come back and was willing to do anything to obtain his goal. Much of his action was absolutely out of character as Riven grew the seed of darkness within Uldren and continued to push and encourage him to give in to that darkness while working towards freeing her. This essentially took the perversion of his personality from the Black Garden and moved that intensity up to the max to create an obsessive, uncaring, cruel, and erratic man. Much of his behavior is what would be considered out of character as he was superficially mean, petty, and a smartass before, turned into truly a monster under the influence of Riven.
Suitability:
Given the state that Uldren arrives in he will struggle quite a bit at the start. He will be desperate to find his sister and try to follow the echoes left in his mind from Riven and generally be relatively condescending towards those around him. He will definitely be stand-offish in terms of people touching him and the synchrony to start and will likely have to deal with the sickness that comes with not participating in it. Given his mental state and the long manipulation by Mara to have little (or no) self worth coupled with the relatively closed and stagnant nature of the Awoken as a people he will struggle to allow himself significant relationships.
Uldren will enjoy the powers: they're something that enhance him and would allow him to do all he does even better, as well as give him a feeling of being special (even though everyone has them, yes). He has commented he wished he was powerful like Mara so being gifted these abilities would bring him closer to that feeling, which he would appreciate and value. He will not enjoy the transformations, however. The rebirth as an Awoken appears to have been a painful one and so the first time going through a transformation and a similar sort of change would freak him out, especially without having Mara there to welcome him into it. With time it will be normalized but the first few transformations will panic him.
With time and the ability to start to adjust to a life where he's not completely taken advantage of he will find his stride and absolutely absorb any positive attention he can get. He can only get better by forming lasting relationships with people who won't take advantage of him and it will mellow him out a lot and bring him back to who he should have been allowed to be: loyal, cheerful, teller of stories, a leader, a friend. We're a long way off from that though, with a lot of sister issues to tackle along the way.
Condition upon arrival: Arrives after he is tainted by Riven. He will hear occasional whispers of what he thinks is Mara and feel a weak connection to her - it is weaker than what he felt while back at home in the Sol System. I plan on these being more of echoes of the influence of Riven rather than something active - something that will fade away over a period of months. He has physical manifestation of the darkness corruption that was taking hold, but we don't really know what all that actually means so it's cosmetic as far as I'm concerned, and may recede over time.
Abilities:
Unknown lifespan - for the sake of this game they live until killed.
All Awoken kinda have resistance to light/dark due to the nature of their creation - Uldren not being absolutely consumed by the darkness is kind of attributed to his light side. Some have further powers, but Uldren does not seem to.
- Excellent shot (guns, bows)
- Falconry & raptor care
- Piloting air/space craft (esp for combat)
- Maintaining air/space craft
- Building/maintaining drones (like his crow drones)
In d&d terms he has a survival skill off the charts essentially so anything that would require a survival check (tracking, hunting, finding shelter, laying traps, etc) he excels at. Also very good at being stealthy with and without technology. He's basically the oldest most broken ranger with a rogue build from d&d. He's an excellent scout and has achieved what many have considered impossible. If I ever made him a d&d character he'd be a ranger with a dex/rogue build and the tinkerer's background tbh.
Inventory: Everything here. The knife here. And, of course, Ace of Spades. :)
Gembond: Amethyst
Gem Location: Nape of neck

Notes: I plan to have Riven's influence over him fade over time, and then (pending CR of course and fingers crossed) to have him grow to a more healthy place and work on becoming the man he coulda been without Mara being a terrible person. The Destiny cast also knows that Uldren's a son of a bitch and they're very chill with him being a complete dick to them so I don't forsee Uldren's generally poor attitude toward them being a problem.
